Strawberry guava is a shrub or small tree that belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It is native to tropical South America, but has been naturalised in other parts of the world.
The plant grows to a height of 4.5 to 6 metres and has a dense, bushy growth habit. The leaves are glossy and green. It has creamy white flowers that form into small round edible fruit that turn red when ripe. The tree can be planted in a wide variety of soil types, is tolerant of mild frost and is drought hardy. It can tolerate some shade and is an excellent medium strata, early secondary agroforestry support/crop species for tropical or sub-tropical climates.
