Allium tuberosum
250+ seeds, sow in spring, summer and autumn
Perennial herb that grows to about 50cm. Prefers full sun and grows in most conditions, dying back in winter and coming back in spring. Animals tend to avoid it due to the garlicy / oniony flavour.
A fabulous ornamental and edible herb. Subtle garlic flavoured flat leaved chives that are fabulous in salads, as a garnish, scrambled eggs, soups and more. Native to China and have been widely used in Chinese cooking for thousands of years. Beautiful white flower heads form that bees go bananas for – the flowers and seeds are edible too. Makes a wonderful border plant, also meaning you can harvest large bunches for Chinese garlic chive salad.
Plant as soon as the weather warms up.
Best sown with multiple seeds into pots or punnets and transplant when 10cm high. Does well in pots too.
Other names: Chinese chives
NOTE:
We only post seeds Friday each week, orders by Thurs (express post not recommended)
