Calendula “Golden Emperor” Calendula Officinalis seeds

Calendula officinalis ‘Golden Emperor’ approx. 20 seeds

This beautiful heirloom Calendula variety is the most vibrant warm yellow, a real ray of sunshine in the garden.
The large 4-5cm blooms are most often double petalled, with occasional singles and frequent triples occurring as well.
This hardy flower is frost tolerant down below -7C, dry spell tolerant and very heat hardy, capable of enduring 38C heatwaves. They thrive in full sun but can also perform well in afternoon shade and if it is getting sufficient light it will flower vigorously year-round. While they will grow in a variety of soil conditions, I find that the plants stay small and compact in very hard clay soils – 20-30cm tall as opposed to the 60cm they can reach in a lighter soil.

While Calendula officinalis is considered an annual, I have found that this variety frequently revives for a second year’s growth if given a hard cutback if it starts to fade.
