Red banana has a reddish-purple skin, is slightly smaller but plumper than the common Cavendish banana. Its flesh is creamy to light pink, and are softer and sweeter than the yellow Cavendish.

They are a favorite in Central America as a form of Aphrodisiac juice, and in India to promote fertility. It has more beta-carotene and vitamin C than yellow bananas, and contains potassium and iron. The redder the fruit, the more carotene and the higher the vitamin C level. They have a longer shelf life than yellow bananas. They tend to cost about 50% more as it is extremely rare.
