Ranunculus seed collected from first and second generation Florentine ranunculus bed in 2025 with blooms in a variety of bright colours. Most will be solid colours, but some will likely have stripes, ruffles or bi-colour petals.

I have grown these seeds out to flower and had a good percentage of doubles but there will be singles as well. Petal numbers increase after the first year in doubles, but my plants aren’t really selected for petal numbers. I would suggest a heavy overplant and then selecting the shapes and colours that interest you by taking out the rest. Corms are best lifted each summer to prevent rotting, but I have had success leaving them in the ground as well, we have dry summers. Plants will flower best in their 2nd to 4th years. A lot of the plants develop side buds that will open but will be smaller than the main flower, to sell as cut flowers I pinch these off. Cut the first flower stem to encourage longer stemmed blooms.

Grow the seed in autumn and cover only very lightly but keep moist, ranunculus seed needs light to germinate.
