(Cucurbita pepo) Heirloom dating back prior to 1860. Also known as ‘New England Pie’. Deep orange fruit to 20cm across & weighing 2-3kg, with sweet, fine grained flesh on vining bush. Prolific. Stores well. May be grown on trellis or left to trail along ground. Fruit grows to around 2kg. Flesh is said to be one of the best varieties for making pies, it is also good for baking, soups and casseroles. Stores well.
