Pinus Pinea – Italian Stone Pine – Pine Nut Tree seeds
KhubiArmidale, New South Wales, Australia
$8.00
Pinus pinea, also known as the Italian stone pine, is an evergreen conifer from the pine family with an umbrella-like canopy and one of the main sources of commercial pine nuts we buy in supermarkets.
It is a tall, bare trunk topped by a flat, mushroom-like crown of bright green needles and having deeply textured, reddish-orange bark. It thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy soils and has excellent drought and coastal wind tolerance.
It is widely planted as a structural landscape feature, a coastal windbreak, bonsai or as a commercial crop for its edible seeds, which take three years to mature inside glossy brown cones. In home gardens and cultivation, it can grow between 12 and 15M in height and has a canopy of about 8 to 12M.
These seeds were harvested from the New England region of NSW. Each packet contains 10 seeds.
