Milkweed Green Latex Vine. Tall thin stem with Swan shaped pods. Ripe when the pods split. Host plant for Monarch Butterflies. Pods are great for nature play ….Grow in Sun Part Shade. Quiet location for Monarchs to lay their eggs. Grow lots and lots and support butterflies with a mass of nectar plants. any questions welcome. This plant is one of my favourites for Monarchs as it is fast growing, trims happily for feeding caterpillars and amazing hug pods. More caterpillars get fed and hardy.

This is just one type of Milkweed and enjoyed by Monarchs. Grow in ground or large pot on trellis or . Keep seeds and replant. Not a weed and many years of growing have found this so. Keep aphids and ants away…don’t squish as the good guys are there too…ladybirds and hover flies. 🦋🦋🦋

Good evening,
I once bought a milkweed plant from a event a few years back, and to my joy it did attract Monarch butterflies. However my plant died and I have not been able to find anyone since that sells them. Now according to this site there are a few different types of milkweed, which is the most suitable for South Australia? The one I had grew like a reed, and it swayed in the wind and had spiky pods after flowering. What would be your recommendations?

Thanking you for your time

Hi Justyn yes there are many and I think the one you are describing Is Gomphocarpus fruticosus Tall thin branching plant with swan shaped pods with soft spikes There is another with similar with more rounded pods called physocarpus The plant which is hardy is Gomphocarpus cancellatus slower growth but hardy and lives longer The latex strangler is as it sounds and best for fast growth huge leaves and pods Hardy too! and feeds more caterpillars Asclepias curassavica in a few colours is also attractive and lasts well. None of these seeds require any special treatment and preferably in part shade except cancellatus after established. Ps all growing unweedy local 5066
