Climbing Beans – Madagascar Bean syn. Tropical Lima Bean.
Lima Bean ‘Madagascar Bean’ is a vigorous, perennial tropical bean with pods that each contain 2-4 large purple speckled seeds that can be peeled and eaten raw or steamed when young or cooked as a dried bean. It grows very well in Melbourne if you can provide a hot and humid micro climate. Details: Sow in Spring, water in well. Bean seeds should be planted around 10 cm apart and sown 25mm deep. Climbing beans grow vertically and can produce large volumes of beans in relatively little garden space after the second year. Ideal for sunny courtyards or up a north facing fence.
