Hyacinth beans are a heat tolerant legume species originating from Africa. There are many varieties, including those with white, brown or black seeds, with various coloured pods (green, purple, green with purple edges). This variety produces vigorous, lush green foliage and upright trusses of white flowers, the beans are fully green in colour and tender when picked young. The flowers are also plentiful and beautiful, with good ornamental value. One bean plant can take up an entire 2x3m trellis or even more.

This pack contains 20+ white Hyacinth bean seeds, which are untreated and ready for planting.

This variety is frequently used for its mature white seeds, but the pods are also delicious when picked young. Please be aware, all fully mature/dried hyacinth beans must be thoroughly cooked before consumption.

Hyacinth beans typically fruit in spring and autumn in my garden but may vary depending on your climate. It is a perennial that can produce year after year if grown in a warm climate that does not freeze.

These beans are more difficult to germinate compared to regular green beans, it is recommended that the seeds are scarified and/or soaked before planting. Germination can sometimes take up to 3 weeks, especially in cold weather.
