Lactuca sativa var. longifolia
Cos, or Romaine, lettuce is a semi-hearting variety.
Sowing instructions:
Can be direct sown outdoors or in punnets in cool seasons: growing during the warmer seasons may cause the plant to bolt.
Seed should be sown on the surface and barely covered with soil – they need light to germinate. Sow at 30cm intervals.
Plant information:
Seedlings emerge 10-14 days after sowing.
Plants grow up to 20cm tall and wide (depending on plant spacing).
Outer leaves can be harvested as this is a looser cos lettuce variety. Alternatively, the lettuce can be harvested at the base – some reshooting may occur if some stem is left.
Liquid feeding will encourage lush growth.
Approx 200 seeds in a packet.
