Brassica oleracea var acephala
100+ seeds, sow in spring and autumn
A biennial (needs to grow through one winter) leafy green to 70cm, that deserves the name Champion. Collards do well in cold climates and will produce all winter. A cabbage type leafy green that does not form heads and best of all, cabbage white butterflies avoid. Will tolerate poorer soils than other brassicas.
A great substitute for cabbage or kale. Great for cabbage rolls. Smaller leaves are tender and cook faster. Frost improves flavour. Harvest outer leaves as needed.
Seeds can be sown directly in a prepared bed or raised in trays or pots.
Other names: collard greens, borekale, spring greens
NOTE:
We only post seeds Friday each week, orders by Thurs (express post not recommended)
