Bitter Melon (Momordica Charantia) – Chinese Style seeds
Cherry's gardenWALLSEND, New South Wales, Australia
$3.60
This product is a pack of high-quality Chinese style bitter melon seeds. Compared to Indian bitter melon varieties, the Chinese variety has thicker flesh, smoother bumps and a less bitter flavor.
Each pack contains 8+ open-pollinated seeds, which are untreated and ready for planting. All seeds were collected in the same year of sale, in late summer (February). Â
The exact variety name for this bitter melon is not known, but it is an heirloom variety and has been growing true to type for 12+ years in my garden. To ensure the seeds grow true to type, only one variety of bitter melon is grown in the garden during any given year.
For best results, it is recommended to nick the seed coat or soak the seeds in warm water before planting. This helps to improve germination rates and speed up sprouting. With proper methodology, an 85-90% germination rate is typically observed.
Bitter melon is a very productive, heat-loving vine that thrives in full sun (8+ hours). Provide a trellis or other support for the vines to climb, and be sure to keep the soil consistently moist.
