Cytisus palmensis

Tree lucerne can be used as a fodder crop for ruminants, bee forage, and as a wind break. The shrub/tree grows to 3-4 metres, but can be pruned regularly to keep its size well under that.

The hard coat of tagasaste seed results in a very low germination of untreated seed. It is recommended that seed are either scarified or treated in boiling water (pour over boiled water and allow to cool to room temperature). Seed germination can also be increased by mixing up soil from around an established tree lucerne tree in water and pouring over sown seed.

Sow seeds 2.5cm deep after treatment during late Winter or early Spring. Soil temperatures above 20 degrees are required.
May take up to 30 days for seed to germinate.

Approx 30 seeds in a packet.
