Korean Singo pears are sweet and juicy. They are not like other pears, they taste like apple and pear together. Korean pears are large (500-600 gm), slightly more rounded and apple-shaped than regular pears. These characteristics make them special.

Pyrus pyrifolia is a species of pear tree native to southern China and northern Indochina that has been introduced to KoreaJapan and other parts of the world.  In Australia, these pears were first introduced into commercial production beginning in 1980 but are usually grown in small orchards by Korean farmers.

Due to their relatively high price and the large size of the fruit, the pears tend to be served to guests, given as expensive luxury gifts, or eaten together in a family setting.

Korean Singo pears are hard, crisp, sweet, slightly tart at the core and very juicy. Because of their high water content, which makes them low calorie, they are not generally cooked into pies or preserved into jams or jellies. In the Korean home, they are peeled and enjoyed raw as a dessert or a snack, are eaten raw in salads. They can last for weeks if stored in a cold and dry place.
